Hidden Camera Case Shocked Mesa Community With Victims Including Minors

A Mesa man was arrested after a hidden camera that illegally recorded eight victims was found in a home, according to officials with the Mesa Police Department.

The device was disguised as a Wi-Fi extender and was discovered in a bathroom by a victim who reported finding it there. Officers were called to investigate after the victim reported the concealed camera.

Multiple search warrants were executed at the home by detectives with the special victims unit and the device was found during the investigation.

Four-Year Span of Illegal Recordings

Police interviewed Andreas Lorenz, 45, who allegedly admitted to placing the camera in the bathroom in 2021 to record his wife. Lorenz told police he did not consider others who the recordings may have captured.

A review of the device showed multiple victims who were recorded without their knowledge. Eight victims were identified, including four children.

Serious Charges Filed

Detectives determined there was probable cause to arrest Lorenz. He is facing charges of sexual exploitation of a minor under 14 and 12 counts of voyeurism.

"This case represents a profound violation of trust and personal privacy that has deeply impacted multiple victims and their families," a statement from Mesa police said. "The Mesa Police Department remains committed to protecting the dignity, safety, and well-being of every individual affected, and ensuring those responsible for such violations are held fully accountable under the law."

Community Impact

The case has drawn attention to the serious nature of crimes involving hidden cameras and the protection of vulnerable victims. The special victims unit worked alongside other detectives to ensure the investigation was thorough.

Police continue to work with affected victims and their families to provide support and resources during this difficult time.
