Prescott Police Officers Involved in Deadly Shooting Wednesday Evening

PRESCOTT, AZ — A deadly shooting involving Prescott Police Department officers is under investigation after a man was shot and killed during a welfare check on Wednesday evening.

According to officials, Prescott officers were dispatched to a residence on Eagle Ridge Road at around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for a welfare check after a person made suicidal statements to a family member.

When officers arrived at the scene, two of them contacted the man by telephone and asked him to come out of the home. Once the man went outside, officials say he allegedly displayed a gun. Officers then fired their weapons at him.

The man was struck and pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel and medics who had been called to the location.

Authorities have not yet released the man's name.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the shooting. Details about the circumstances of the incident are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.

Local law enforcement agencies have not yet released additional details or a formal statement on the incident.
