Police Shoot Suspect Near Circle K During Multi-Scene Investigation
SCOTTSDALE police responded to shots fired at a Circle K convenience store early Wednesday morning, but the situation escalated into a multi-scene investigation involving multiple arrests and one person in critical condition.
Scottsdale officers were dispatched at about 2 a.m. to the Circle K on Miller and Camelback roads after reports of shots fired at the location. Police tape and bullet holes were visible on the exterior of the Circle K when officers arrived.
The investigation expanded when additional shots were fired at a nearby residential complex. Multiple 911 calls came in from neighbors who reported seeing people flee the scene and jump into backyards.
An officer made contact with a suspect who was allegedly fleeing from the area. The suspect allegedly reached for their waistband, which led to the officer deploying their weapon.
The suspect was struck and suffered critical injuries. After being shot, the suspect jumped over a fence into a yard and was detained. Police said a gun was recovered at the scene of the police shooting.
Detectives rendered life-saving aid, and the suspect was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. No officers were injured during the incident.
By 5 a.m., a SWAT team was seen standing outside a nearby apartment complex. Commands were delivered through a speaker while two individuals were escorted out of an apartment by police.
The investigation involves three different scenes that officers are in the midst of processing. Access to the intersection of Miller and Camelback may be restricted while the investigation continues.
