A Multi-Agency Operation Targets Dangerous Driving on State Route 69
Eleven drivers were arrested and 101 traffic stops were made during a coordinated law enforcement operation on State Route 69 near Sundog Ranch Road in the Prescott area this past Saturday.
The operation was organized through the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and involved officers from the Prescott Valley Police Department, the Prescott Police Department, the Chino Valley Police Department, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
According to The Prescott Times, the crackdown was a direct response to numerous complaints from local residents about speeding, aggressive driving, and other unsafe behaviors on the busy corridor.
Drug and DUI Arrests Highlight the Dangers
Among the 11 arrests made during the operation, four were for impaired driving. The details of some of the stops reveal the severity of the violations.
One driver was stopped for traveling 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. Officers later arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. During a vehicle inventory before the car was towed, police found 23 fentanyl pills, cocaine, and methamphetamine inside the vehicle.
Another driver was arrested after being observed traveling more than 100 mph on the highway, a speed that poses a serious risk to other motorists in the area.
The Numbers Behind the Stops
The operation resulted in the following citations and arrests, according to police reports:
- 54 speeding citations
- 4 excessive-speed citations (defined as more than 20 mph over the posted limit)
- 4 impaired-driving arrests
For the drivers arrested for alcohol-related DUI offenses, the average blood alcohol concentration was 0.240. That figure is three times Arizona’s legal limit of 0.08.
An Ongoing Community Effort
Local officials described the operation as part of a broader effort to address traffic safety concerns raised by community members.
"Drivers are encouraged to follow posted speed limits, make safe driving choices, and never drive while impaired," the Prescott Valley Police Department said in a statement.
The department noted that these enforcement actions are intended to reduce dangerous driving behaviors on local roadways. Residents with tips about criminal activity can contact Silent Witness at yavapaisw.com or p3tips.com.
