Surveillance Cameras Moved. Records Deleted. Money Gone.

A Phoenix woman who managed a Black Canyon City business was arrested last week after Yavapai County detectives say she stole more than $40,000 and tampered with surveillance equipment to cover her tracks.

Jennifer McPeak, 35, was taken into custody on June 23 without incident, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office (YCSO). She faces charges of felony theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, and destruction of evidence.

A Seven-Month Paper Trail

The investigation began in April 2026 when the unnamed business reported financial discrepancies spanning from September 2025 to April 2026. Detectives found deleted financial records, incomplete documentation, and missing deposits that all pointed to McPeak, who served as the general manager.

"Protecting the hard-earned income of Yavapai County small businesses is vital to the security and economic health of our community," the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The Numbers Behind the Theft

According to YCSO, detectives established the following losses:

  • $34,497.61 in unaccounted cash, including petty cash, tip-related funds, daily deposits, and game machine revenue
  • Additional unauthorized transactions that brought the total loss to more than $40,000

Detectives also uncovered evidence that McPeak intentionally repositioned the business's surveillance cameras around the same time financial records were deleted, according to the YCSO.

What Happens Next

McPeak was arrested on June 23. The YCSO did not name the business involved in the theft. Court records will determine the next steps in the case.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said it remains committed to investigating financial crimes targeting local businesses.
