Three teenagers have been indicted on felony charges after a violent Chandler home invasion left an elderly man pistol-whipped and his daughter shot in the early hours of June 6.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced the indictments on June 17. The charges connect two separate acts of violence that unfolded within 20 minutes of each other in a quiet Chandler neighborhood.

A Rideshare Robbery Started the Chain

According to court documents, the violence began near Elliot Road and Arizona Avenue. An Uber driver was attempting to pick up passengers when five men with tattoos approached his vehicle. The driver said he could not fit all of them inside.

An argument ensued. Police say the driver told the group to leave his car. One of the men then struck the driver in the head with a firearm, according to court paperwork.

Jesus Sandoval Nunez, 18, and Jorge Jurado Martinez, 17, were indicted on charges tied to the rideshare robbery. Those charges include two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated robbery, three counts of aggravated assault, and one count of burglary. Martinez also faces a charge of misconduct involving weapons.

The Home Invasion

About 20 minutes later, Chandler police received a call about a burglary at a nearby residence. Officers arrived around 6 a.m. on June 6.

An elderly man reported that at least two unknown men forced their way into his home through his bedroom door. The suspect struck him in the head with a gun, according to authorities. The homeowners were attacked after the suspects forced entry.

"Family members said the two victims have since returned home to recover," family member Melissa told FOX 10 Phoenix. She said the family has lived in the neighborhood since the 1980s.

The homeowner's adult daughter, who has special needs due to a traumatic brain injury, was shot twice in the arm. Police say the suspects demanded the victim's vehicle keys and stole his Mercedes sedan.

Both victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. They are expected to survive.

Kevin Tristan, 17, was also indicted in connection with the home invasion. He faces charges of first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery, and aggravated assault. Both Martinez and Tristan are being charged as adults.

Three Men Accused of Helping Suspects Flee

Three additional men face felony charges for allegedly helping two of the suspects attempt to escape to Mexico.

Pete Canez, 65, Robert Rosas, 59, and Anthony Rosas, 39, were charged with hindering prosecution, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

Sandoval Nunez is being held on a $250,000 bond. He faces charges of armed robbery, theft of means of transportation, burglary, aggravated assault, and aggravated robbery.

Melissa told reporters that the community has rallied around the victims with donations, meals, and prayers. She said relatives still do not know why the home was targeted.

Chandler police and the Maricopa County Attorney's Office have not announced any additional suspects in custody.

"The MCAO says Sandoval and Jurado Martinez were also indicted for an armed robbery that happened beforehand," ABC15 reported.
